OUR HISTORY

Shoemaker, Inc. was established by Lawrence Shoemaker in 1955 as a HVAC wholesale supplier to the Holland, Michigan area. A few years later, Lawrence was joined by his sons, Jason and Larry, as the business grew and there was need to accommodate an increasing customer base. Over the next 20 years, the three expanded the company’s Holland presence, increasing their warehouse capacity and product offering to meet the needs of their customers.

Jason and Larry purchased the business from Lawrence in 1979, and began looking to grow the company into more service areas. In 1981, Shoemaker, Inc. opened a branch in Kalamazoo, MI. Later, the company purchased Valley Equipment, adding two more branches in Stevensville, MI and South Bend, IN.

A third generation of Shoemakers joined the family business during the 1980s. Jason’s sons Dave and Bob, and Larry’s sons Steve and Dan Shoemaker began working in the day-to-day operations of the company, and eventually purchased the company from their fathers in 1997.

Like their fathers, Dave, Bob, Steve, and Dan continued to look for opportunities to expand Shoemaker, Inc. Soon after they purchased the business, they opened a branch in Mt. Pleasant, MI, and in time they added locations in Grand Rapids, MI, and Gaylord, MI.

Today Shoemaker, Inc. remains family owned, and proud to serve Michigan and Northern Indiana HVAC contractors from seven branch locations. We pride ourselves on providing quality products and great service.
